Mammootty is once again playing a superstar after the stupendous success of Katha Parayumbol in Bipin Prabhakar’s One way ticket. It is a casting coup of sorts for writer Babu Janardanan and Bipin Prabhakar as Mammootty has agreed to do the film with Prithviraj playing the hero. In One way ticket Mammootty is playing himself, the “superstar Mammootty” while Prithviraj will play his crazy fan Kunjappu, president of Mammootty fans association!
The story written by Babu Janardanan is set in Kondotty in Malappuram district, Mammootty’s traditional stronghold. Kunjappu played by Prithviraj is a well educated youth who due to circumstances is forced to be a taxi jeep driver.
Renjith is planning to make a sequel to one of his earlier films, but in the scripts of another big name in Malayalam - Renji Panikkar. The giants in the scriptwriting field is planning to come together to make a film on the character of Nanda Gopal Maarar, the guest role that Mammootty did in the super hit Mohanlal film ‘Narasimham‘. As per the initials details, Renji Panikkar who did a story based on this character, told about this to Renjith, the original scripter of ‘Narasimham‘.
Renjith who got interested in the storylines immediately agreed to direct the film. The film will be an investigative thriller, which will start its shooting after the completion of the full scripts.
Mammooty has been encouraging new talents in the film world by giving his dates to new filmmakers. These young filmmakers have in turn given him many hits to him like ‘Samrrajyam’, ‘Ou Maravathoor Kanavu’ and ‘Rajamanikyam’. Even his recent hit movies ‘Big B’ and ‘Kadha Parayumbhol‘ were directed by young and new filmmakers.
The veteran actor, who has been instrumental in the success of new faces, is all set to work with another set of debutants like K K Rajeev, Thomas Sebastian and Asshik Abu in the coming year.
Apart from these new talents, Mamootty has again given dates to another new comer-Gireesh, who is the associate of Shyamaprasad. He has also worked as an assistant director in many of Laljose’s movies. Mammootty who heard the one-liner of the new movie, instantly agreed to become the lead character.
The film which is planned to shoot in and around Bangalore will be a musical action thriller. The director himself will pen the scripts for this film which is yet to be titled. Gireesh has the experience of making many popular commercials and documentaries.
Sneha captivated the Malayalam cinema fans with her scintillating smile in the film ‘Thuruppu Gulan’.
And her sparkling onscreen chemistry with megastar Mammootty in that film was one of the highpoints of Thuruppu Gulan .
Now, the grapevine is abuzz that Sneha has been signed up to play Mammootty’s heroine in his comeback film in Tamil.
The film, being directed by Mani Ratnam’s assistant, Karthik, will have music by Vidyasagar.
There is more good news for the fans of Sneha and Mammootty. The buzz is that the twosome will be paired again in a Malayalam movie to be made after the Tamil film of Mammootty has been completed.
The last film Mammootty did in Tamil was ‘Junior Senior’. Among his earlier films in Tamil was ‘Dalapati’ in which Mammootty rubbed shoulders with the reigning super star of Tamil films, Rajnikant . 
Mammootty has been acclaimed for his performance both in filmTamil and Malayalam films. However, the actor has been concentrating more on his Malayalam ventures since some time. Mammootty’s last release in Tamil was Junior Senior. Now the actor returns to Tamil films with his Tamil movie Vande Matharam, which will be released in Tamil Nadu and Kerala simultaneously. The Telugu version will obviously be released in Andhra Pradesh. Vande Matharam (title is subject to change as given in another news item), produced by Henry Pankaj Productions, will be directed by Karthik. Mammootty will appear as a initially self-centred policeman; Sneha will take off in her role of an airlines pilot.
Mammootty’s big budget movie Pazhassi Raja will be released in Tamil simultaneously along with the Malayalam version. Pazhassi Raja, produced by Sree Gokulam Movies, was launched recently in a gala function attended by many important personalities of the Malayalam film industry. Tamil superhero Sarath Kumar (who is also playing an important role in the film) also graced the occasion with his presence. Directed by Hariharan, the movie has the story and screenplay by M.T. Vasudevan Nair and Venu is the cameraman. Music maestro Illyaraja scores the music for songs penned by O.N.V. Kurup.
Mayavi, the super hit film directed by Shafi is continuing its wonder run, but now in the B class theatres. The film has celebrated 100 days in major centres, a month ago and was acknowledged as the first super hit of the year.
As the Vishu flicks took over major release centres by Vishu, the film which was in its winning stride was pushed off to many B class centres. But the film is repeating the collections, exactly as it has made in the class centres.
In almost every second centres, the film ran for more than four weeks. The film is running to 65 days in a centre, where the film has already managed a share of more than 3 lakhs.
The film has completed a 50 days in another center at Thrippunithura, in the five kilometer radius from Ernakulam city. The film is expected to make more than 20 crores revenue from the overall run in the state.
Mammootty will be part of a cross-over film which would be shot in a span of just 20 days at Mahabalipuram. Mammootty had hogged limelight recently being part of Ambedkar.
His portrayal was so convincing that he won the National Award for the film. The actor is now getting ready to star in another off-beat film called 'The Late Night Beggar', in which Mammootty plays the role of a doctor.
Rohini is his wife and Baby Malavika is his daughter in the film. S Karthik is the director.
This was to happen as Mammootty, as never before was running between four films at a time. And for the first time in his last four years, his planning is going haywire. His Onam film Nasraani according to his earlier schedules was to start next month.
But now, the film will start late and will be postponed for a further release date. Orekadal will be his immediate release which will hit the theatres by July 12. Mission 90 days, the action thriller by Major Ravi, will now become his Onam release.
Apart from this film, Mammootty is presently on the sets of magnum opus Pazhassi Raja which will be completed only with a shoot for another 65 days.
Mammootty has also started working for his bilingual Vande Matharam directed by debutante Karthi. Apart from these he has also earmarked his five days to appear for a cross over experimental film by debutante S Karthik.
Big B, the film which is creating waves in the Malayalam box office for its exquisite styles and difference in narration, will be remade in Tamil.
The film which is running to packed houses in Kerala will be remade by Team Work productions. The film will be directed by Subrahmaniam Shiva.
Ameer, the director of the latest Kollywood hit Paruthi Veeran will appear in the lead role that Mammootty did in the original. The film will start its shoot by the end of next month.
M T Vasudevan Nair and Hariharan have commenced work for Pazhassi Raja featuring Mammootty in the role of a freedom fighter.
Hariharan says, “We felt that Pazhassi Raja had not got the recognition he deserved, especially outside Kerala, for his contribution to the freedom movement”.
'The 1857 Sepoy Mutiny is considered the first freedom fight, but Pazhassi Raja fought the British 50 years before that, in the jungles of Wayanad. My film is about how he fights the British by organizing a tribal force in Wayanad and how he gives up his life for the cause”.
Kanika plays Pazhassi's wife and Padmapriya plays the other major female role in the film.
Tamil film actor Sarath Kumar is also in the cast. Music is by Ilayaraja.
